(MYRTLE BEACH) – Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) released the following statement regarding Mark Sanford’s successful bid for the GOP nomination for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District:
“It is no secret that Washington spends too much and we need more fiscal conservatives like now-Senator Tim Scott representing the Palmetto State. During these times of record debt and deficits, South Carolinians deserve to have a proven fiscal conservative like Mark Sanford representing their interests. I look forward to working with Mark Sanford as we both work to address our nation’s fiscal problems while still prioritizing needed infrastructure like I-73 and the dredging of the Georgetown and Charleston ports.”
“Additionally, I would like to thank all of the candidates who sacrificed to run for the 1st Congressional District GOP nomination. The breadth and depth of all of the candidates in the race is a positive sign that the Republican Party in South Carolina is vibrant and growing.”

AUTHOR OF REPUBLICAN-ALTERNATIVE TO OBAMACARE CAMPAIGNS FOR TOM RICE
Congressman Tom Price Joins Tom Rice At Healthcare Briefing
Myrtle Beach, SC – Congressman Tom Price, author and chief architect of the House Republican-alternative to Obamacare, was in Myrtle Beach today to campaign for Tom Rice, Republican nominee of the 7th Congressional District. After the briefing, Rice made the following remarks:
“I am proud to have Congressman Price join me to speak about Obamacare and his alternative, the Empowering Patients First Act.” said Rice. “The Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, is a trillion-dollar tax, a job-killer, and will be devastating to our healthcare industry.” Rice added, “Obamacare guts $716 billion from Medicare, increases premiums for households, mandates coverage for individuals, and forces nearly 40 percent of current Medicare Advantage enrollees from the 7th District off of their coverage plan.”
Rice continued to say “Congressman Price’s alternative is common-sense healthcare reform that will allow patients to keep their coverage, allow for competition across state lines for providers, and will lead to lower healthcare costs. It also includes tort reform and medical liability reform to end frivolous lawsuits, association health plans to allow association groups to provide coverage to qualified groups, and it does all of this without removing funds from Medicare.”
Congressman Tom Price said in his remarks that the 7th District needs to elect Tom Rice to Congress to ensure repeal of Obamacare. Congressman Price was an orthopedic surgeon for more than 20 years, and represents the 6th District in Georgia. He is Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee.
Tom Rice is currently the Chairman of Horry County Council and is the Republican nominee for the 7th Congressional District. For more information about Tom and his campaign, visit VoteTomRice.com.

TOM RICE FOR CONGRESS ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENTS – FEATURING HALEY, EDWARDS, NAPIER AND YOUNG
(Myrtle Beach, SC) – Today, Tom Rice, Republican candidate for the 7th Congressional District, released the names of legislative officials that have endorsed the Tom Rice For Congress campaign.
Among the endorsers are: Nikki Haley – Governor of South Carolina and former member of SC House of Representatives; Jim Edwards – former SC Governor and former US Secretary of Energy under Ronald Reagan; John Napier – former US Congressman and former Federal Judge; Ed Young – former US Congressman; and many others.
Governor Haley said of Rice: “I and other members of the Reform Movement watched for years as Andre Bauer sided with the establishment and undercut the conservative agenda. Now he says he’s a conservative. Where was he when we needed help fighting the Obama stimulus? He was one of its biggest cheerleaders. We don’t need another self-interested career politician in Washington. Michael and I completely support Tom Rice – an accountant and tax attorney – as we continue to focus on jobs and the economy for this growing and important new district and our state.”
Governor Edwards added: “As the first Republican Governor of this State since Reconstruction, I was tasked with blazing a trail of conservative leadership that had long been missing from our State’s executive branch. In a similar way, the new 7th District presents to South Carolina residents in the Pee Dee and Grand Strand a blank slate for the Congressman elected. The citizens of the newly formed 7th District have earned a spot at the table in Washington, and the responsibility of representing these citizens is not one to be taken lightly. Because of this extraordinary opportunity, and because of his consistent conservativism, I am proudly announcing that I endorse Tom Rice as the 7th District’s new voice.
Tom is a common-sense Republican, a small business-owner, and a family man. He has the necessary experience to be an effective representative for this district. Tom is a man of great integrity, and ingenuity. I know Tom will work for the residents, and will truly represent the entire district. I fully support Tom Rice, and know he is the best choice to be Congressman.”
Congressman Napier mentioned: “Tom Rice is a man of stature, and he will serve our District well. This Election comes at a pivotal moment in our country’s history, and we need to have a representative in Washington who is ready to face the challenges that face our great nation. That man is Tom Rice, and that is why I am proud to endorse Tom Rice for Congress.”
Congressman Young stated: “I am proud to offer my endorsement of Tom Rice to be the Republican nominee for Congress from South Carolina’s new Seventh Congressional District. With his background as a CPA and business lawyer, Tom has brought a fresh, new, business-like approach to his duties as Horry County Council Chairman and I am absolutely confident he’ll take that same deliberative, common-sense, conservative approach to his duties as our Congressman. Tom has been a friend of my family for years, and I know he will be there for Florence and the rest of the Pee Dee. I’m indeed honored to support and vote for a fine conservative like Tom Rice.”
Rice stated the following about the more than 30 endorsements of legislators and local leaders: “I am humbled to have received the endorsements of so many Conservative individuals that have helped shape the Republican Party into what it is today. I am honored to receive their endorsement.” Rice added, “It is an honor to be supported by current SC Governor Nikki Haley, former Governor Edwards, Republican Congressmen who have represented the Pee Dee and Grand Strand, a federal Judge, a Department Director, members of the SC House of Representatives, City and County Councilmen, and local leaders. It is even a bigger honor to be supported by them because they are from here and know that I will best represent the 7th Congressional District. I welcome them all to my team.”

The bus stop also includes a plant tour in Horry County.
Gov. Haley stated in her endorsement Friday, “I and other members of the Reform Movement watched for years as Andre Bauer sided with the establishment and undercut the conservative agenda. Now he says he’s a conservative. Where was he when we needed help fighting the Obama stimulus? He was one of its biggest cheerleaders. We don’t need another self-interested career politician in Washington. Rice said of the endorsement, “I was delighted and honored when Gov. Gov. Haley’s statement hit the nail on the head, ‘We don’t need another self- interested career politician in Washington. I pledge to honor the Governor’s kind words by working every day for the people of the 7th district to implement real conservative reform in Washington.”

RICE ENDORSED BY TUCKERS, EVANS, CRAWFORD, AND BENNETTS
Seventh District Runoff Candidate Honored to Have Support of so Many
(Myrtle Beach, SC) –Tom Rice, who is currently in a Runoff for the 7th Congressional Republican nomination, has received the endorsement of several prominent Chesterfield County residents.
Mark Tucker, speaking on his family’s behalf stated, “Our family feels it is important to support a candidate who understands the economy and the burdens that the federal government is placing on family run businesses. We feel Tom Rice is such a candidate. Tom Rice has business acumen and true family values, and he believes in a smaller, more efficient government. This is why our family is pleased and excited to support him as a candidate in South Carolina’s District 7.”
The Tuckers own and operate Tucker Lumber in Pageland.
Carl Tucker said, “Our family is supporting Tom Rice for several reasons. First Tom Rice is not a career politician, he has common sense ideas and true family values. Second, Tom’s business experience has given him an understanding of the current business environment and the burdens that the federal government is constantly placing on job creators. Third, as a tax attorney Tom knows the government cannot sustain its current path of debt that will most certainly hinder the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness of future generations. Tom Rice has exhibited to us, all of the qualities that would make him an excellent Congressman for the people of South Carolina.”
In addition to the Tucker family’s endorsement, Malloy Evans and Jim Crawford have stated, “We are fortunate to have a candidate to represent us in Washington who has a background in accounting (CPA), a law degree, political experience, and a successful business. This broad-based experience will be invaluable as Tom Rice works to improve the economic climate and well-being of the citizens in the 7th District.”
Robby and Lindsay Bennett of Cheraw have also been steadfast supporters of Tom Rice’s campaign since early in the Primary, and join in with the Tucker, Evans, and Crawford endorsements. The June 12th Primary resulted with Rice receiving 27% of the total vote, which propelled him into the June 26 Runoff against Andre Bauer .
In the June 12 vote, Tom Rice received more votes than any of the other eight Republican candidates in Chesterfield County, Georgetown County, and Horry County.
Tom Rice is honored to have received so many endorsements. Last week, Rice also received former opponents Chad Prosser and Randal Wallace’s support. The runoff takes place throughout the new 7th District next Tuesday, June 26.

RICE ENDORSED BY WALLACE, PROSSER, CLEMMONS
Seventh District Runoff Candidate Honored to Have Support of so Many
(Myrtle Beach, SC) – Tom Rice, who is currently in a runoff for the 7th Congressional Republican nomination, has received the endorsement of two former candidates, and one of primary architects of the new district. Chad Prosser, Randall Wallace, and Alan Clemmons have all thrown their support behind Rice for the Runoff on June 26.
“Throughout the race, I grew to know all of the other candidates and respected each of them as worthy opponents, but Tom Rice indeed stood out,” said Wallace. “His focus on balancing the budget and getting the country back on the right track is something we need desperately in Congress.”
“I believe that Tom truly has the best interests of the people of our district at heart,” Prosser included in a press release late last week. “Tom is a family man with deep roots in our community. I strongly encourage Republican Primary voters to cast their vote for Tom Rice in the June 26th Runoff.”
Alan Clemmons’ endorsement took a different tone. Clemmons not only expressed his support of Rice, he also chastised Rice’s remaining opponent, Andre Bauer, for lowering his campaign to the use of attack ads. “For months now, Lt. Gov. Bauer has consistently pledged to run a clean campaign,” wrote Clemmons. “I don’t wish to subscribe motives to Lt. Gov. Bauer’s change of heart, but the kind of negative ad that was unleashed [last week] gives me an indication that Mr. Bauer may believe his only way to win is to tear Mr. Rice down. In truth, Tom Rice will be the kind of Congressman who will make us proud.”
Tom Rice is honored to have received so many endorsements. The runoff takes place throughout the new 7th District next Tuesday, June 26.

GOP Congressional Candidate First to Hit Airwaves
(Myrtle Beach, SC) – Today, Republican candidate Tom Rice began broadcasting commercials to constituents in the 7th Congressional District. Rice is the first candidate to launch ads in the race for Congress. The primary is being held Tuesday, June 12.
Rice’s ad, entitled “One of us”, focuses on his business experience. In the commercial, he promises that he will push for a balanced budget amendment if elected to Congress. The ad features Rice, his wife, their three grown sons, and several residents from the district.

The transcript for the commercial is as follows:

I know what it’s like to make payroll. I know how to balance books and they sure need that in Washington. I’m Tom Rice, and I approve this message.”

Has More Than XX Donars From The New 7TH District
(Myrtle Beach, SC) – According to the most recent campaign finance filings with the Federal Election Commission, Tom Rice outraised his opponents in the fight for the Republican nomination for the 7th Congressional District. Rice, who announced his candidacy last November, has not only raised more money from donors, he also has twice as many donors as the next highest raiser.
“The outpouring of financial support I’ve received proves how passionate people are about seeing change,” Rice said. “So many are willing to give because they know how much stronger their voices can be in Washington by sending a home grown candidate to represent them. People want a businessman with experience and a family man with conservative values. I bring both to the table.”
Rice led in contributions raised from donors in the first reporting period as well. As of March 31, when the most recent reporting period ended, Rice had 500 separate contributions recorded, 97% of which were from people living in the District. Rice is an accountant and business lawyer in addition to serving in his first term as Chairman of Horry County Council.
